| Question: Hi Dr. Beall,
Separate from this message, I've e-mailed photos of Sebastian -- a 4-year-old Golden Retriever. Sebastian has always had a habit of chewing on a single spot on his leg -- until there is a large, raw sore. The behavior comes and goes -- but never goes away entirely. For several days now he's been at it again. Prednisone, allergies, changes in food have all been tried in the past -- none have impacted the behavior. I have also sent photos of some other skin irritations he seems to have; and photos of his front right paw which is deformed. Hope you can us figure out why he is chewing on himself so much. Thank you! Erin |

| Question: I have a couple of questions:
1. My dog Maggie was treated by the vet about a month ago for demodex mites. In order to fully get rid of them we had to put her on Ivomec once a day for 30 days. I gave her .5cc everyday and she did great. The mites went away and everything was perfect. It's been about a month since I've stopped the Ivomec and I think she is getting the mites again. I see one spot on her back leg where she is losing hair. And, she is shedding like crazy. Way more than normal. She shed like this before the mites went into overdrive the last time. When she was on the Ivomec everyday her shedding was minimal to none, her skin and coat were beautiful and she showed no adverse effects of the meds. My question is can I keep her on the Ivomec on a daily basis? Can I give it to her 2-3 times per week even? Are the longterm effects of her being on it? Please help...I will ask my other question seperately.
Thanks so much,

| Question: Here is my 2nd question regarding Maggie:
She was spayed in July. Recently about once or twice a week when we're getting ready to settle down for the evening she secretes or leaks something. It's not urine and it's not poop. It smells funny, like a hormone or something. What could it be? Does it have anything to do with her being spayed or did something go wrong with the procedure? Please help.
Thanks so much,

| Question: I have been reading a lot of articles on vitins for dogs, that help with nutrition and antioxidants. She eats a dog food brand diet from the vet (same brand you sell), doesn't this have her covered? Do you recommend vitamins for young dogs? Are there preventative meds for nutrition that have some merit? |

| Question: Hi Dr. Beall!
At sometime during the past few days, the tip of one of Simon's front "fangs" broke off! It's jagged now, but I don't believe the nerve is exposed. A few questions:
1) Should we have the tooth filed or smoothed somehow -- or will it smooth out on its own?
2) What could have caused this broken tooth? He's not an old cat -- is this normal at his age?
3) Simon seems bothered a lot by his gums -- for as long as we can remember, he constantly rubs at them and they bleed sometimes. We try to brush his teeth/gums once in while, but it's tough to do. Do you think he is having more serious dental problems -- and is there something else we should be doing? We'd hate to see him start losing his teeth!
Thanks!

| Question: I have an indoor female cat 19 years old. She is in good health aside from the normal signs of aging. She seems to have a little weakness in her back legs at times and I was wondering if it would be safe to give her Cosequin"? I thought it just might make her a little more comfortable. Are there any side effects to worry about with her age? She weighs about 8-9 lbs. |

| Question: I just got a new kitten 20 days ago and he has gone to the vet and was given clavamox drops because he was sick and tired all the time. He came from a home with over 100 other cats! Now my other 3 cats are starting to sneeze and get a little cold like HE had. What should I do? Is there a way I can get something for them too without taking all 3 of them to the VET? |

| Question: My Wheaten puppy is nearing 8 months old and seems to be small for her age and breed. The AKC stats say the range is 30 - 45 LBS and she is 22 LBS. She does eat and she is very playful. Our local vet says this is normal, she is just petite. She is taking protein enzyme tablets for a vomiting issue that she has had. Is she going to grow anymore? |

| Question: Hi Dr. Beall,
Maggie chews all the time. When she's at home by herself she likes to sit in our bay window and look outside. While she's there she chews on the window sill. It's not like she's trying to get out. It seems more like a nervous chew. When we're home with her she will chew on a toy until she's cut a piece of it off with her teeth. None of her toys have ears anymore and if there is a rope on anything it's gone as well. When she chews it reminds me of someone chewing their fingernails as a nervous habit or a kid sucking their thumb to self soothe themselves. Is she nervous? Bored? Both? What can we do? I don't mind her chewing her toys, but my window sill has seen better days. |

| Question: Hi Dr. Beall,
I had to take Maggie to the vet. She developed a reaction to mange mites. She has a spot on top of her head, a spot above one eye and a spot on her neck where she is losing hair. They gave me goodwilnol (not sure if that's how you spell it) cream to put on once a day. It doesn't seem to be clearing up...is there anything else I can give her with the cream to help speed the process? They told me it is usually caused be stressed or a weakened immune system. Is there anything we can give her to help boost her immune system?
Thanks,
